We celebrated the arrival of new Academic Year 2011-2012 Straus Fellows, Tikvah Fellows, Emile Noel Fellows, Tikvah Scholars, and J.S.D. students.This event was a wonderful opportunity for all those who are spending the academic year at 22 Washington Square North to get acquainted with each other and to meet other members of the NYU School of Law community.

We were delighted to welcome His Excellency, Mr. Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Council, on Wednesday, September 21st at 6:00pm to take part in a discussion alongside three eminent scholars: J.H.H. Weiler, University Professor and Director of The Jean Monnet Center; Gráinne de Búrca, Professor, NYU School of Law; and Renée Haferkamp, Senior Visiting Scholar, Harvard University.

The Eighth Annual Emile Noël Lecture on the State of the (European) Union was presented by His Excellency Mr. Demetris Christofias, President of the Republic of Cyprus. Professor J.H.H. Weiler, Director of The Jean Monnet Center for International and Regional Economic Law & Justice introduced President Christofias.

The Tenth Annual Caroline and Joseph S. Gruss Lecture:

The Gruss Lecture this year is entitled "Law and the Political Culture of Israel" and will be delivered by Professor Menachem Mautner, Danielle Rubinstein Professor of Comparative Civil Law and Jurisprudence, Tel Aviv University.

The Annual Gruss Lecture Series was inaugurated in 2003 by Dr. Haym Soloveitchik, who was followed by Moshe Halbertal, Robert Alter, Leon Wieseltier, Michael Walzer, Arnold Eisen, Ruth Gavison, James Kugel and Gary Anderson.

A Kosher reception will follow the lecture.
